Speir Brogdon Building
Richmond Hill's first 4 story building - prime retail space, professional office space, and luxury residential condos located in the heart of Richmond Hill and the busy downtown area.
On February 1, 1797, the Bryan County justices (commissioners) valued two acres of Willliam Clark's plantation at Cross Roads at $24, for the purpose of establishing a permanent county seat and courthouse. Cross Roads was the intersection of the Savannah-Darien Stage Road (present US 17) and the Bryan Neck Road (present state 144).
Apparently, the Cross Roads, later the site of Ways Station and still later, Richmond Hill, was selected for the convenience of its location, both for the planters of Bryan Neck, and the increasing numbers of settlers establishing themselves in the Canoochee River region and upper Bryan County. Here the courthouse was built and the business of the county transacted for the next seventeen years.
